Moving, moving, moving
Posted on 16th Jun 2008 at 12:06 AMIt has loomed in the distance since before my last semester of college ended, but now the dream is becoming reality. I am moving to New York.
I have nothing to fear, for I will be in a place where I am loved and nurtured with people who will be patient with me.
However, in the past, when I agreed to move, I did not consider -- not that it changes my course -- how much I would miss this place.
I have lived in this dusty little town, located lovingly in West Texas, fourteen years. I came here in the third grade. I grew up here. I had my first period here. My body developed here. My first love was here. My first piece of writing, my first anime drawing, my first commission, my first best friends, my first school dance, my first rejection, my first day of high school, my first time behind the wheel of a car, my first license, my first day of college, my last day of college. Both of my graduations.
In in less than a month I will bid it a semi permanent farewell. Surely, there will be visits from time to time to those whom I call my parents. Surely I will turn around for the comfort and the love of my old friends. There will be visits.
But this place will no longer be my home.
A person assumes they hate the place they grew up in, never realizing just how much happened in that one place -- until they are saying goodbye.
However, I will not say goodbye with tears or with merose poetry, or regret.
I will say goodbye with a smile.
Thank you, dusty little town.
I love you.
